Abstract
The construction of a remote Raman microscope system with a variable m icroscope-to-spectrometer distance of up to 3 m is described. Oxidativ e surface corrosion products on zirconinm ahoy and stainless-steel nuc lear fuel claddings for pressurized water and advanced gas cooled reac tor systems produced under various conditions were studied and the pot ential of the technique for in situ analysis is discussed. Under the c onditions studied experimentally, the major corrosion products are fou nd to be alpha-ZrO2 and alpha-Fe2O3 for the zirconinm alloy and stainl ess-steel claddings, respectively.
