Abstract
The separation of the Raman correlation function as a product of indep endent vibrational and reorientational correlation functions is invest igated. The present model is a unification of previous models which tr eat separately vibrational dephasing and reorientational relaxation wi thin the context of the stochastic approach. It indicates that the so- called product approximation for the Raman correlation function can fa il even when the relaxation rate is distinct for vibrational and reori entational relaxations. Application to experimental data for liquid CS 2 is presented.
