Aa. Shaltout et Ma. Abdelhalim, SOLID-STATE CONTROL OF A WIND-DRIVEN SELF-EXCITED INDUCTION GENERATOR, Electric machines and power systems, 23(5), 1995, pp. 571-582
The paper analyses a system of autonomous induction generator directly
feeding, without a d.c link, an induction motor. The generator is dri
ven by a wind energy turbine and the motor is driving a water pump. Th
e analysis is based upon a mathematical model that accounts for the va
rious nonlinearities and mutual interactions of the system elements. I
nvestigations of such a system revealed that it can be controlled to e
xtract the maximum available wind energy by proper adjustment of the t
erminal voltage of the generator. The required control strategy is for
mulated, then it is implemented by a static VAR controller which suppl
ies the induction generator with necessary reactive power.
