Cadmium tetrahydroborate reacts with alkali metal alcoholates or pheno
lates in THF solution either with formation of addition products [Cd(B
H4)(2)OR](-) or by ligand exchange to produce Cd(BH4)OR. Different oli
gomers of the latter are formed depending on concentration. The reacti
on of Cd(BH4)(2) with Cd(Omes)(2) (mes = mesityl) leads to an equilibr
ium of the starting materials with Cd(BH4)(Omes) as shown by Cd-113-NM
R spectroscopy. The crystal structure of Me-Cd(OCMe(3)), a molecule wh
ich can be regarded as a model for Cd(OCMe(3))(BH4), proved to be a te
tramer with a cubane-type Cd4O4 core.
