Dynamic instability of a moving plate subjected to parametric in-plane
forces is analyzed. The extended Galerkin method is used to discretiz
e the differential equation of motion, and the harmonic balance method
is employed for investigating the instability regions of the moving p
late. Two cases of parametric excitation are considered: fluctuating t
ension, and fluctuating tangential cutting force. Only simple parametr
ic resonances are possible in the case of fluctuating tension, while i
nteresting combination resonances are excited by the fluctuating tange
