Abstract
In clinical practice, the accuracy and predictive values of a diagnost ic test may differ substantially from values cited in published report s, owing to a lower prevalence of most diseases in clinical population s than in study populations. To correct this problem, published assess ments of diagnostic tests should standardize accuracy and predictive v alues to account for disease prevalence.
