Pg. Tucker et Ca. Long, CFD PREDICTION OF VORTEX BREAKDOWN IN A ROTATING CAVITY WITH AN AXIALTHROUGHFLOW OF AIR, International communications in heat and mass transfer, 22(5), 1995, pp. 639-648
Experimental evidence has shown that for certain ratios of axial to ta
ngential velocity, at the inlet of a rotating cavity with an axial thr
oughflow of air, vortex breakdown can occur. A non-isothermal, laminar
prediction made using computational fluid dynamics techniques (CFD) s
hows evidence of this. At vortex breakdown the predicted mass flow ent
ering the cavity varies significantly with time.
