Abstract
Experimental evidence has shown that for certain ratios of axial to ta ngential velocity, at the inlet of a rotating cavity with an axial thr oughflow of air, vortex breakdown can occur. A non-isothermal, laminar prediction made using computational fluid dynamics techniques (CFD) s hows evidence of this. At vortex breakdown the predicted mass flow ent ering the cavity varies significantly with time.
