Abstract
Atomic resolution scanning tunneling-microscope images of the (2x1) an d c(2x2) reconstructions of CdTe(001) are presented. Both reconstructi ons can be described by a structural model in which the surface is ter minated with 0.5 ML twofold-coordinated Cd atoms. Step edges, domain b oundaries and various types of point defects that the surface atoms ar e highly mobile at Physics, are characterized. The measurements indica te that the surface atoms are highly mobile at room temperature. (C) 1 995 American Institute of Physics.
