Wp. Mo et al., MAMMALIAN EXOCRINE SECRETIONS .9. CONSTITUENTS OF PREORBITAL SECRETION OF ORIBI, OUREBIA, OUREBI, Journal of chemical ecology, 21(8), 1995, pp. 1191-1215
Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in conjunction with ancilla
ry techniques such as chemical ionization with different reactant gase
s, determination of the position of double bonds by means of dimethyl
disulfide derivatization, and finally gas chromatographic and mass spe
ctrometric comparison with authentic synthetic material, 75 constituen
ts were identified in the preorbital secretion of the male oribi, Oure
bia ourebi. The secretion contains compounds with long-chain, unbranch
ed structures similar to those found in many other preorbital secretio
ns but with a finite volatility range, in contrast to the seemingly en
dlessly increasing chain lengths typical of other preorbital secretion
s.
