Abstract
The cytology of the viscacha pars distalis pituitary has been investig ated by electron microscopy. The specimens were obtained from their ha bitat. Seven morphologically distinct cell types were recognized in th e gland of this rodent. The fine structure of each variety is describe d and illustrated. Two cell types do not show granules in the cytoplas m. The remaining five types have granules as well as other cytoplasmic characteristics that lead to identify them as TSH, GH, LTH, ACTH and gonadotroph secretory types.
