Excitation functions were measured for (d,n) and (d,2n) reactions on i
sotopically enriched Te-123 from their respective thresholds up to 12.
5 MeV by the stacked-foil technique. The production yields of I-123 an
d I-124 over suitable energy ranges were deduced from the measured exc
itation functions. The results do not meet the expectation of producin
g I-123 or I-124 in high purity and with high yield via a deuteron ind
uced reaction on Te-123. The data should, however, be useful in estima
ting the level of impurities in production processes involving (d,xn)
reactions on Te-124 or other isotopes of tellurium. A comparison of va
rious routes for the production of both I-123 and I-124 at a small or
medium-sized cyclotron is given. Copyright (C) 1997 Elsevier Science L
