We describe a patient suffering from protracted and life-threatening t
hallium poisoning. She was treated with Prussian blue and forced diure
sis, and made a good recovery. Cisapride may be effective in improving
gastric emptying and relieving constipation resulting from the thalli
um and the treatment. Haematological abnormalities occurred in the ear
ly phase of the poisoning, with a prolonged fall in the CD4/8 lymphocy
te ratio during recovery.
