T. Kasuga et al., BI-SR-CA-CU-O SUPERCONDUCTING THIN PLATES PREPARED BY GLASS-CERAMIC PROCESSING - DEPENDENCE OF T-C ON THE THICKNESS, Journal of materials research, 12(2), 1997, pp. 332-337
The melt of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (BSCCO) was quenched by splatting using iron
plates, resulting in formation of the glassy plates (0.3-0.7 mm thick
ness), The plates were converted into superconductors by reheating in
air. The critical temperature, T-c, depends on the thickness. The chan
ge in T-c is discussed in terms of the difference in the amount of oxy
gen absorption and in crystallization behavior of the glassy plate dur
ing the reheating process between the glassy phase in the interior and
that around the surface, It was found that high-T-c glass-ceramic thi
n plates can be prepared by controlling the amount or the rate of oxyg
en supply.
