H. Schuster et al., AN ANGIOTENSIN-CONVERTING ENZYME GENE VARIANT IS ASSOCIATED WITH ACUTE MYOCARDIAL-INFARCTION IN WOMEN BUT NOT IN MEN, The American journal of cardiology, 76(8), 1995, pp. 601
We compared 163 patients with acute myocardial infarction with 227 pat
ients undergoing angiography for anginal-like chest pain, and determin
ed the allele frequencies of the angiotensin-converting enzyme gene in
sertion/deletion polymorphism, We found that the D allele was associat
ed with acute myocardial infarction, particularly in women, and was in
dependent of other risk factors, including 1-, 2-, or 3-vessel disease
, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, hi,oh-density lipoprotein chole
sterol, lipoprotein(a), blood pressure, and body mass index.
