Abstract
A damage model for brittle materials under dynamic loading is presente d. The nucleation, growth, coalescence and fragmentation of microcrack s are considered. The influence of inertial effects on dynamic growth of microcracks, which is a major characteristic of dynamic loading, is taken into account. The critical condition for microcrack dynamic gro wth is obtained. In addition, microcrack interaction is accounted for implicitly in the model.
