S. Bates et Ds. Morrison, MODELING THE BEHAVIOR OF STRATIFIED LIQUID NATURAL-GAS IN STORAGE TANKS - A STUDY OF THE ROLLOVER PHENOMENON, International journal of heat and mass transfer, 40(8), 1997, pp. 1875-1884
The evolution of stratified liquid natural gas (LNG), from its formati
on to its breakdown, is considered. Experimental observations have sho
wn this evolution to consist of two principle phases: a quiescent, sta
ble phase 1 where the interface between the two layers is stationary;
and an unstable phase 2 characterised by a migrating interface and cul
minating in a rollover. Mathematical models of the two phases are prop
osed and considered separately. For phase 1 a parametric solution is d
erived; the corresponding numerical solution of phase 2 equations is g
iven and shown to compare well with experimental data. (C) 1997 Elsevi
