The specific adsorption of perchlorate ions on a mercury electrode fro
m ethylene glycol solutions was studied by capacity measurements of th
e double layer and interfacial tension as a function of the NaClO4 con
centration. The amounts adsorbed were calculated, and the capacity was
resolved into its component parts with the aid of diffuse-layer theor
y. The results were analysed using the Frumkin isotherm to characteriz
e specific adsorption of the ClO4- ions. The electrostatic properties
of the inner layer also were determined and discussed.
