We studied the orientational ordering of grafted rod polymers on the s
urface. The rod polymers were nonmobile and allowed to have two config
urations: either lying down on the surface or standing up. The only in
teraction between the rods were hard core interaction. We computed the
orientational order parameter using the recently developed random loc
al field theory. We found that the order parameter increased monotonic
ally as a function of the concentration of the rods and, thus, there e
xisted no pancake-brush transition. (C) 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
