This work presents the potential of a LaOCl porous membrane reactor fo
r the reaction of oxidative coupling of methane. The sol-gel method pr
ovided LaOCl membranes supported on alumina tubes which presented meso
porous texture. Actually, the severe operating conditions of this reac
tion caused textural instability which restricted any transport effect
s to the macroporous domain. However, despite moderate separation effe
cts between methane and oxygen, beneficial effects of the membrane rea
ctor have been observed, subject to surface composition, structural an
d feeding configuration requirements.
