T. Geishauser, ABOMASAL DISPLACEMENT IN THE BOVINE - A REVIEW ON CHARACTER, OCCURRENCE, ETIOLOGY AND PATHOGENESIS, Journal of veterinary medicine. Series A, 42(4), 1995, pp. 229-251
Literature on the subject of character, history, occurrence, causes an
d pathogenesis of abomasal displacement in the bovine is listed and su
mmarized. The chapter on occurrence is subdivided according to heritib
ility, sex, age; season, husbandry, milk yield and concomitant disease
s. In the chapter on causes special consideration is given to feeding.
The chapter on pathogenesis is subdivided according to mechanical inf
luences, disturbances of the abomasal motor activity, collection of ga
s and dilatation of the abomasum and artificial displacement of the ab
omasum. Displacement of the abomasum is seen predominantly in the spri
ng in herds with above-average milk yield in dairy cows between the ag
e of 4 and 7 years which have calved within the last month and have ke
tosis. The etiology and pathogenesis of abomasal displacement are uncl
ear.
