Abstract
The applicability of the local density approximation (LDA) is studied along with the problems of short-range nucleon correlation effects on nuclear structure and reactions. The calculations for correlated nucle ar matter enable us to introduce. an equivalent local Fermi momentum a nd local Fermi energy which can be used within the LDA for various stu dies of quantities such as level densities, reaction cross sections, e ffective mean-field potentials and others. The equivalent Fermi energy averaged over the density and the first nucleon-nucleon (N-N) collisi on probability radial distribution is calculated as a function of the correlation parameter within the Jastrow correlation method. A quantit ative criterion for the applicability of the semiclassical models is s tudied in more detail.
