Trivalent europium-activated yttrium oxysulfide phosphor material prep
ared by a sulfide fusion method is the primary red material used exten
sively in color television (CTV) screens. Applying the heterogeneous n
ucleation theory, we discuss some new results obtained on the formatio
n process of the yttrium oxysulfide system grown on yttrium-europium o
xide using sodium (poly) sulfide flux.
