Abstract
The total microbial biomass (dry wt) in all soil horizons comprises 6 to 22 ton/ha. By their microbial biomass pool, the soils studied appro ximate zonal soil types but rank below pears. In soils under study, mi croorganisms are mainly represented by fungal mycelium and spores (91 - 98% of the total microbial biomass). Fungal biomass is abundant thro ughout the soil profile, with a peak in the middle soil horizon rather than in the uppermost one; this is connected with the humidity regime peculiar to these soils.
