We developed penetration equations for rigid spherical-nose rods that
penetrate ductile metal targets. The spherical cavity-expansion approx
imation and incompressible and compressible elastic-perfectly plastic
constitutive idealizations simplified the target analyses, so we obtai
ned closed-form penetration equations. We compared predictions from ou
r models with previously published penetration data and results from L
agrangian and Eulerian wavecodes.
