Abstract
We describe a high-frequency modulation and detection system capable o f measuring absorbance changes Delta A on the order of 10(-6) in optic al pump-probe experiments using submilliwatt laser powers from a mode- locked ultrafast laser. For probe beam powers greater than or equal to 9 mu W, the system offers nearly shot-noise-limited performance. (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics.
