Abstract
It is shown that 3D neutral fluid turbulence of toroidal flow over cav ities leads to much enhanced heat flux to the toroidal sidewalls. For ITER-like diverters, this turbulent convection will very significantly lengthen the gas blanket detachment region - which from laminar heat conduction would be totally inadequate.
