RENAL VARICES - DIAGNOSIS WITH CT SCAN AN D TREATMENT WITH EMBOLIZATION

Two cases of recurrent macroscopic hematuria in which the diagnosis of left renal vein varices was suggested on CT are described. Bloody eff lux was seen from the left ureteric orifice. On CT scans, tubulated co ntrast-enhanced densities in left perirenal fat were seen. Selective r enal angiography was normal. Selective left renal phlebography demonst rated intra and perirenal varices. In the two cases, embolization with metallic coil was successfully performed during left renal phlebograp hy, to stop renal varices flux. Diagnostic and therapeutic modalities of renal varices are discussed with predominant place for CT and phleb ography.
