Abstract
THE good, the bad, the therapeutic: Thalidomide, the teratogenic drug that caused a rash of birth defects 35 years ago, has potential benefi t as a therapy for AIDS and leprosy; as several companies work with th e Food and Drug Administration to pursue it for these new uses, others are looking to the effort for lessons on developing drugs that cause birth defects.
