Simple analytic solutions, obtained for the energy density of the ampl
ified radiation, are used to analyse the influence of various types of
excitation of a medium on the processes of essentially transient stim
ulated Raman scattering and inverse Raman scattering in a powerful las
er radiation field. It is shown that the excitation may alter the natu
re of amplification and may also reveal the initial ratio of the phase
s of the interacting waves.
