Carbon membranes, produced by thermo-oxidative stabilization of polyac
rylonitrile (PAN) precursors, were used as porous supports for continu
ous zeolite layers to give composite zeolite-carbon membranes. Differe
nt zeolite growth techniques were used, and the membranes were charact
erized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elemental dispe
rsive X-ray analysis (EDAX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
