B. Fink et Kp. Wild, SIMILARITIES IN LEISURE INTERESTS - EFFECTS OF SELECTION AND SOCIALIZATION IN FRIENDSHIPS, The Journal of social psychology, 135(4), 1995, pp. 471-482
Two questions were investigated: (a) How strong are the effects of sim
ilarities in interests on friendship choice, and (b) how does friendsh
ip foster the development of commonly shared leisure interests? Change
s in interest similarities for a group of 96 male friendship dyads liv
ing on a German university campus were compared with interest changes
in a control group over a period of 6 months. A strong effect of inter
est similarities on the selection of friends was not supported. Only w
eak socialization effects were found.
