Abstract
We report an interesting effect in organic conductors and superconduct ors: the inducement and/or enhancement of superconductivity by uniaxia l compressive stress. Uniaxial stress induces superconductivity in a d ensity-wave material and increases the transition temperature of a sup erconductor by a factor of 3. Analysis of the Shubnikov-de Haas effect shows an expansion of the in-plane unit cell with stress and an incre ase in effective mass when superconductivity is induced.
