A Doppler image of the spot distribution of the ''naked'' T Tauri star
V410 Tau in epoch 1994.0 is presented. This image was derived using s
ix photospheric absorption lines, and it shows a spot distribution dom
inated by a high-latitude spot whose center is offset from the rotatio
n pole of the star and several midlatitude spots. V410 Tau may have a
spot morphology similar to that seen in two other young stars (V824 Ar
a and HDE 283572), but slightly different to that seen in RS CVn stars
, which tend to have a polar spot centered on the rotation pole. H alp
ha which appears consistently as emission in this star, shows dramatic
variations in its equivalent width (by a factor of 4) and in its shap
e. Maximum Ha emission as well as very strong He I D-3 emission is see
n at the phase when the high-latitude spot transits the disk, which in
dicates that chromospheric activity such as plage and flares may be as
sociated with this spot feature.
