Abstract
Institutional mergers may become more common in the near term because of revenue shortfalls. The key to a successful merger is whether the o rganizational cultures are, or can become, compatible. This paper, dra wn from a year-long study involving the merger of two seminaries, desc ribes distinctive aspects of the two institutional cultures, identifie s potential cultural conflicts, and discusses the implications and ben efits of using cultural research to guide institutional policy and pra ctice.
