Abstract
We study the self-localization of one polaron-like excitation in a 2D harmonic lattice. We recognize and variationally estimate the values o f the ruling parameters, for which localization occurs, both in the co ntinuum limit and in the more realistic discrete case. We eventually a ccount for the width of such an excitation in the lattice.
