Abstract
We present an original polarimetric method to study the magnetic relax ation of ferrofluids. The Brownian relaxation of three ferrofluids wit h Fe2CoO4 particles dispersed in water, dibutyl phthalate and diethyle ne glycol is presented and compared with the theoretical model of Deby e adapted to the magnetism. The results show that this system has a go od sensitivity even at low volume concentration of particles and under low ac magnetic field. The analysis of the relaxation parameters lead s to a good estimation of particles diameter and put in evidence a dis tribution of relaxation time.
