Na. Yusuf et al., MAGNETO-DIELECTRIC ANISOTROPY IN MAGNETIC FLUIDS DETERMINED FROM MAGNETOOPTICAL MEASUREMENTS, Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials, 149(3), 1995, pp. 373-379
Magneto-optical measurements on magnetic fluids have been utilized to
determine the magneto-dielectric anisotropy seen by light polarized in
the direction of the effect in magnetic fluids. Our results show that
the dielectric constant, epsilon(parallel to ), applied magnetic fie
ld increases with the field, while epsilon(perpendicular to) seen by
light polarized normal to the field decreases with the field. Moreover
, the results also show that epsilon(parallel to) exhibits a peak wit
h temperature while epsilon(perpendicular to) exhibits a minimum. Our
calculated results are in good agreement with those obtained using co
nventional impedance measurement techniques, with the advantage that t
his method is not affected by the electrode effect, parasitic impedanc
es, skin depth and accuracy-related problems that are typical of conve
ntional impedance measurement techniques.
