Archival X-ray observations of AM CVn are analysed and the obtained re
sults are presented. Its once reported Ariel V hard X-ray emission det
ection is discarded in the light of the new data. In particular, soft
X-rays are unambiguously detected for the first time by the ROSAT Sate
llite. X-ray luminosities of the order of only 10(29) erg s(-1) are de
rived, posing some constraints on the possible nature of AM CVn. The i
mplications following our analysis are discussed in the cataclysmic va
riables' context.
