Abstract
The possible influence of watershed lithology on metal levels in estua rine sediments and organisms (macroalgae, phanerogams, molluscs and po lychaetes) in Galicia (north-west Spain) was investigated, In sediment s, background levels of Fe, Mn, Cu, Cr, Ph and Ni-but not of Co and Zn -are determined by watershed lithology, In contrast, watershed litholo gy is not a reliable predictor of the metal contents in organisms, alt hough for some metals in some species lithology has a statistically si gnificant influence on metal content.
