Abstract
The diffusion-convection equation of mathematical physics has been use d under simplified conditions to develop a model that simulates moistu re flow within a cast sample of finite length which undergoes shrinkag e under convective influence of the suction mold. The model reveals th at under transient conditions, the moisture concentration within the c ast oscillates with the increase in the convective velocity and once t ransient conditions subside, the rate of moisture removal tends to ret ard due to compaction as the convective velocity is increased.
