SOLUBILITY OF ANTHRACENE IN BINARY ALCOHOL PLUS 1,4-DIOXANE SOLVENT MIXTURES

Experimental solubilities are reported for anthracene dissolved in sev en binary mixtures containing 1,4-dioxane with 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, 2-butanol, 1-octanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, and 3-methyl-1- butanol at 25 degrees C. Results of these measurements are used to tes t two mathematical representations based upon the combined nearly idea l binary solvent (NIBS)/Redlich-Kister equation and modified Wilson mo del. For the systems studied, the three-parameter combined NIBS/Redlic h-Kister equation was found to provide the better mathematical represe ntation, with an overall average absolute deviation between experiment al and calculated values being on the order of 0.6%.
