A detailed analysis of the chemical constituents of a Caribbean specim
en of Pseudoceratina sp. which, on the basis of its morphological char
acters, seems to be different from the hitherto described three Pseudo
ceratina species, was performed. This study led to the isolation of ni
ne brominated products (1-9), one of which is a new bromotyrosine meta
bolite. The proposed structure of the new compound 1 is based on spect
ral arguments. Compounds 1 and 2, which are the major brominated metab
olites of our specimen and which have not yet been isolated from any P
seudoceratina species, could be usefully employed as chemotaxonomic ma
rkers.
