In this contribution an automation system for the control, measurement
uptake, evaluation and visualization is presented as well as its appl
ication for two different flow-injection immunoassays. Both systems ar
e based on the principles of now-injection analysis and were developed
for a reliable, fast monitoring of relevant proteins in animal cell c
ultivation processes. One system uses a homogeneous assay with turbidi
metric detection, the other a heterogeneous assay with an immobilized
immunocomponent applying fluorescence detection. The on-line applicati
on during a mammalian cell cultivation as well as off-line measurement
s of medium samples are presented. The results obtained from on-line m
easurements are compared to ELISA results. The automation of the analy
sis systems with respect to its flexible control as well as the reliab
le evaluation of the measurement signals-even if they are severely dis
torted-are discussed in detail.
