Abstract
Inhibitors of melanin biosynthesis from marine microalgae were screene d against a melanin-producing microorganism, Streptomyces bikiniensis. From 28 marine microalgal strains, 5 were found showing inhibitory ac tivity. Of these, the extracts (50 mu l, 2 mu g total organic carbon/m u l) from two marine green algae showed strongly inhibited melanin bio synthesis, but showed less than 30 % inhibitory activity against mushr oom tyrosinase.
