C. Brussol et al., SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS OF CARBONYLS FORMED DURING THE PHOTOOXIDATION OF SELECTED MONOTERPENES IN AMBIENT AIR, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 5(9-10), 1996, pp. 534-538
The sampling and analysis of carbonyls formed during the photooxidatio
n of selected monoterpenes (alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene) in ai
r is investigated. A method using 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine coated C-
18 cartridges which allows the specific analysis of aldehydes and keto
nes as their hydrazones down to sub ppb-level is applied. A wide range
of products was analysed including 6,6-dimethylbicyclo[3.1.1]heptan-2
-one, 3-(1-methylethenyl)-6-oxo-heptanal and pinonaldehyde which are t
he main atmospheric oxidation products of beta-pinene, limonene and al
pha-pinene, respectively.
