Basing on the annual data of mortality and birth-rate in Russia in 185
7-1897 an attempt to evaluate the role of solar (sunspot number W) and
geomagnetic activity (K-p-index) in the population was made. It war s
hown that mortality is affected by the solar activity and by the absol
ute value of geomagnetic activity deviation from the mean level: M(i)
= 3,29 + 0.0044W(i+1) + 0.030 Delta K-p,K-i (r = 0.78). For the birth-
rate the following expression was obtained: B-i = 5.00 - 0,049 Delta K
-p,K-i+1 - 0.0012W(i+3); (r = -0.67). The correlation coefficients bet
ween the observed variations of the mortality (and birth-rate) and ind
ices M(i) and B-1 amounts the values 0,78 and -0,67 correspondingly.
