Ic. Mcneill et al., THE THERMAL-DEGRADATION OF THE VINYL ACETATE-METHACRYLIC ACID COPOLYMER AND ITS RELATED HOMOPOLYMERS .3. THE ANALYSIS OF THE PYROLYSIS PRODUCTS, Polymer degradation and stability, 48(3), 1995, pp. 395-410
The thermal degradation of a vinyl acetate copolymer having a 53:47 mo
nomer ratio and 65% alternating units and of its related homopolymers
has been studied in vacuum, up to 500 degrees C. The fractions collect
ed during pyrolysis (gas, liquid fraction, tar and char) have been qua
ntitatively determined for material balance. The components of the liq
uid fraction of the three polymers have been assessed and quantitative
ly analysed by GC-MS. The results are discussed in connection with the
analysis of the other fractions in previous papers of the series.
