Octahedral heterochelates of Mo(IV), synthesised by using two differen
t ligands of heterocyclic aldehydes, (2-furanyl)methanal and (2-pyridi
nyl)methanal and ketones, 1-(2-furnayl)ethanone, 1-(2-thienyl)ethanone
, 1-(2-pyridinyl)ethanone and 1-(2-naphthenyl) ethanone are described.
The 1:1:1 molar reactions of dioxobis(2,4-pentanedionato)molybdenum(V
I) with these ligands produced coloured solids. The structural feature
s of these molybdenum complexes were explored by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR
, electronic measurements and molecular weight determinations. An octa
hedral arrangement of ligands around the central molybdenum atom is pr
oposed. Some of the ligands and their heterochelates have been screene
d for their biological activity on several pathogenic fungi and bacter
ia and the data show good activity of these complexes.
