The stress state arising in the near-surface layers of a material as a
result of friction was investigated. The stress-strain state in a mod
el composite material with included continuous high-modulus fibers was
evaluated. The relationship between stress concentration, ratio of th
e matrix and inclusion mechanical properties, and the concentration an
d distribution of inclusions was determined. The regions of elevated s
tress in the material which are most susceptible to the initiation of
destructive processes were identified.
