Abstract
The maximum signal levels that are possible with modulation transfer s pectroscopy using both amplitude modulated and frequency modulated pum p fields are theoretically investigated. The results indicate that amp litude modulation produces signals that are larger than those obtained with frequency modulation for modulation frequencies that are suitabl e for frequency locking applications.
